Besitzarbeit XII (Pier and Ocean), 2009
Die letzte der Besitzarbeiten bezieht sich auf die Serie Pier and Ocean (1915) von Piet Mondrian, ein wichtiger Schritt in seiner Entwicklung hin zur Abstraktion. Jede Zeichnung der Serie besteht aus einem liegenden Oval, das eine Anordnung vertikaler und horizontaler Linien enthält, die für die Sterne am Himmel und deren Reflektion auf dem Ozean stehen. Die Andeutung eines ins Wasser ragenden Piers stabilisiert und zentriert jede der Kompositionen. Die Installation im PS1 bezog sich sowohl formal als auch inhaltlich auf diese Arbeiten: zwischen dem Museum und Florian Slotawas damaliger Wohnung in Berlin liegt der Ozean, über den ihr Inventar als Material für die Installation per Schiff hin und zurück transportiert wurden.
The latest work from the Besitzarbeiten refers to the series Pier and Ocean (1915) by Piet Mondrian, marking an important stage in his development towards abstraction. Each picture of the series consists of a flattened oval containing a composition of vertical and horizontal lines representing the stars in the sky and their reflections in the ocean. The recurring figure of a pier jutting into the water calms and stabilizes each image. The installation at the P.S.1 makes reference formally and also in terms of content to these works: between the museum and Florian Slotawa´s former Berlin apartment lies the ocean, across which a ship brought furnishings from his home which were used as material for the installation.
